Photo of Helium Balloon System
This is the ultimate system for travel in remote regions --where no one else can go. It is the Crown Balloon System (14 helium balloons -- each 30 feet in diameter). It will help you get there and back -- where ever you need or want to go. It normally carries 16 people and special equipment with a gross lift of about 11,000 pounds.
The two main units shown in the photo (scale model; 300:1) have underslung titanium framing which provides spacious room for the occupants. The framing also allows a main unit to be in a flat configuration or stacked 3 over 3.The two separate "T" balloons are used to retrieve grapples and to clean and inspect the main units.
The 14 balloons are all interconnected with lines (which are not shown). Normally there is no free flight -- grapples and mooring lines are thrown out by grapple launchers and permit winched travel directly over really terrible terrain.
Photovoltaic sheets on the top of each balloon generate electricity directly from sunlight and power the onboard systems and the winches.
