The Owl & the Frog -- The Starfish
For as long as anyone can remember, the Owl and the Frog were buddies.
In the forest, the Owl, who pretended to be wise, blinked three times and suddenly was dressed like a judge. He was hungry and lost. He always had an answer when he was hungry and lost. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a beautiful golden frog -- which was covered with jewels. His eyes were green emeralds and his back sparkled with blue sapphires.
The Owl was proud of his special frog -- The Owl placed the frog on the ground and turned him around three times. Then -- suddenly the frog came to life and grew in size until he was much larger than the Owl. The Frog winked at the Owl and said “Let’s go find something to eat."
”When he was awake, the Frog usually had an accurate map on his back that showed where to find food. But today, the Frog was wearing a black derby hat -- it really was a magic hat -- and he reached inside of it and pulled out a starfish. The Frog placed the starfish on the ground and spun it around.
When it stopped, the Frog and the Owl looked at it very carefully. THEN -- after awhile -- one leg of the starfish lifted up and pointed to one side. The Frog picked up the starfish and put it back in his hat and off they went.
Very soon they came to a meadow and saw a very strange sight -- a water sprinkler was spraying out water in a big circle -- but the water turned to frost as soon as it hit the ground. The ground near the sprinkler was covered with ice crystals that changed shape all the time as more water hit them.
The Owl, pretending to be wise, said “Ah -- ha -- Let’s jump over the sprinkler and see what happens -- no even better, you jump and I’ll fly over it.” So they did and immediately the sprinkler turned into a can of paint with a paint brush on top and the ice crystals all shrank back under the can and formed a plain box. The box said “paint me.”
Carefully the Owl and the Frog painted the box -- AND -- when it was all done, it popped open and spilled out a big pile of nuts. They both began to eat the nuts -- but as usual, this made the Frog very sleepy. As soon as he fell asleep, he became a small golden frog again. The Owl picked him up and put him in his pocket -- along with lots of nuts. Then the Owl wandered off eating the nuts pretending that he was not lost.
