Snow Bear and Speedy Ho Ho -- Long Legs, the Stork
Snow Bear lived in the desert and had never seen any snow. He dreamed of snow and he planned to find some -- but the desert was hot and dry.
Speedy Ho Ho was a regular guy and liked Snow Bear. Ho Ho had broad, strong wings and could fly with great skill and ease. He lived high in the mountains where there always was lots of snow.
Snow Bear lived in a tree house and somehow managed to keep it packed with good food. In the tree house there was a special fountain -- it could produce any kind of juice or drink you could think of. Snow Bear had lots of friends because of his special fountain -- and because in the desert -- water and juice are hard to find.
One day they decided to talk to a local expert -- a funny looking stork named Long Legs who was very clever. Everyone believed that Long Legs had great wealth but he just used what he had with great care and imagination. They wanted to make a special tree that would make candy -- any kind of candy -- whenever you wanted it.
Long Legs thought for awhile about this problem and then said -- I think it can be done. I'll help you -- but if it works, I want to get free candy. Snow Bear and Ho Ho immediately agreed and they all started in on this project.
Amazingly -- in a very short time -- but really because Long Legs was very talented -- they had their special tree. The candy tree was just under Snow Bear's tree house. It was a funny looking tree -- it was short and the truck was very thick. The leaves were odd shaped and the bark was rough -- but they had their candy tree.
The way it worked was that you put your hand on the bark and thought of the candy you wanted -- then in a few moments, the bark opened up and -- there was your candy. They were all delighted with their candy tree. Snow Bear and Ho Ho each ate a huge amount of candy immediately. Long Legs came by once in awhile and had some candy, but not too much.
After awhile, Ho Ho noticed that the size of the candy which the tree produced kept getting smaller and smaller. This was a problem -- but not too serious because the candy tree still produced a lot of candy.
They finally decided that maybe they were trying to get to much candy from one tree -- so they made some more candy trees -- and these all produced lots of candy. But -- only the first tree produced any kind of candy -- the rest produced only one kind. But these details did not matter -- they were pleased with their work -- and so were their friends.
